Poker is, and always has been, more than just a means to an end to most people. The social aspect of poker makes it the perfect game for gatherings of any kind, as even though it is a competitive game, it manages to bring people together. Therefore, it doesn't surprise us that many family dinners, game nights, and even charity events center around poker.
Every year, dozens of poker charities take place to raise money for great causes, and this year is no different. This summer in particular has a highly packed social poker calendar, with some of the most anticipated charity events of the season. For example, the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run took place earlier this summer in Canada, raising money for the Make-A-Wish foundation, among other things.
Which events are still ahead of us? And which are worth your notice?
About the Charity Series of Poker
While many independent organizations often host poker charity events, the main non-profit company that specializes in such events is the Charity Series of Poker (CSOP).
Established in 2014, the CSOP works with various charities and raises money for different causes, all while organizing some of the best poker events around the world.
Originally, the company was founded to provide poker players with an opportunity to volunteer and give back to the community, but it has grown exponentially since then.
This year, they are organizing two highly anticipated charity events, and all poker fans are awaiting to join them with bated breath.
Event #69: All In for Ability will take place on September 7 in a poker club in Las Vegas. At this moment in time, the prize pool consists of $5,000 in cash and over $9,000 in donated prizes. The event is dedicated to supporting the Ability Center of Southern Nevada, which runs the only special needs gym for people with disabilities in the area.
Participants will be able to enjoy a turbo Texas Hold'em poker tournament, a silent auction, and so much more.
The second event worth mentioning is Event #68: Always Bet on Blue, which will take place on November 8 at the same club in Las Vegas. With a similar prize pool as the previous event organized by the CSOP, the event strives to raise money in support of injured and disabled law enforcement officers in the US.
Apart from enjoying an exciting Texas Hold'em tournament, participants will also be able to enjoy free massages, a cocktail hour, and a fun silent auction.
Both of those charity events are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to poker charity events. There are dozens of different charities that choose to plan poker events to draw the attention of the crowds, as this game manages to cast its magic over everyone who tries to play a hand.
